Born in south eastern Kentucky, I spent my formative years surrounded by the rapidly growing practice of mountain top removal coal mining. joined the US Army to get away, Spent 3 years in the Army Airborne Engineers working as a welder/machinist. Got to used to answering to the affectionate pseudonym of "Morris the Cat". "Hey", everybody got one, I was lucky to get on of the lesser offensive ones. Used the G. I. Bill to complete a 22 month masonry course in Hazard KY. Worked on on both residential & commercial projects, while earning A.A.S. degree in Architectural Technology from the University of Kentucky.

Moved to Houston, Tx. got married and worked for an architectural precast concrete company, for a while, before earning a B.S. degree in Technical Education from the University of Houston. Due to my wife's job we moved to western Washington state. Couldn't find a teaching job, so I worked as a mason on residential and commercial projects, both union and non union before before starting my own contracting business using the name "mTc" Construction. Eventually, we followed my wife's work to Maryland, where we built a house and I continued to design/build one of a kind masonry projects, this time doing business as "Yellow Cat Stone Studio".

This name reflects both a homage to my past as well as my growing fondness for natural materials. I believe the more focused atmosphere of a studio environment allows for a closed scrutiny of all design concepts, proportions, material choices, and methods of construction. It also greatly improves my personal work motivation and job satisfaction. Best of all, I don't leave a mess at a client's house.
